Civil Engineer (P. Eng.)/ Project Manager

About the Company

Established in 1963, Cyril J. Demeyere Limited is a Consulting Engineering firm that specializes in municipal engineering works for both private developers and local municipalities. CJDL has extensive experience in land development and in road reconstruction in an urban environment where the scope of work includes replacement of sanitary & storm sewer and watermains.

The Opportunity: Currently, CJDL has an immediate opening for a Civil Engineer at our Tillsonburg office. This is an opportunity for rewarding full-time employment with a reputable firm.

The scope of this role includes: Performing a variety of engineering design, contract administration and construction supervision duties together with a senior engineer. Projects will include infrastructure renewal, new subdivision servicing, site/lot development/grading plans, sewer and watermain design and storm water management. Projects under the Drainage Act may also be included in the scope of work.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical or geologic data to plan projects
  • Interpret, review and approve survey and civil design work
  • Liaise with clients and a variety of professionals including architects and subcontractors
  • Ensure projects comply with legal requirements, especially health and safety
  • Assess the sustainability and environmental impact of projects
  • Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, and material stress factors to determine design specifications
  • Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards
  • Direct or participate in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction
  • Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility
  • Other duties as assigned my management

What it takes:

  • 5 plus years’ experience in the field
  • University Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to direct and supervise employees and contractors
  • Ability to manage projects from concept to completion
  • Relevant experience working with municipalities, developers and contractors is preferred
  • Ability to interpret, read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications
  • A working knowledge of AutoCAD is preferred
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal
  • Good interpersonal skills – ability to develop and maintain positive professional relationships
  • Driver’s License Class G required
